About

Kummer EcoConsult Environmental Law and Policy Consulting was launched in 2000 by Dr. Katharina Kummer Peiry, a senior environmental policy maker, and was managed by her until 2007, when she was appointed Executive Secretary of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes. The treaty saw significant new developments under her leadership and vision. Kummer EcoConsult was inactive during her tenure.

The merger of the Secretariats of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions under a joint Executive Secretary heralded the end of Dr. Kummer Peiry's assignment. As of 3rd September 2012, Kummer EcoConsult is again operational, benefiting from Dr. Kummer Peiry's enhanced experience as a senior manager  in the United Nations Environment Programme, host to the Basel Convention Secretariat.

Katharina Kummer Peiry holds a PhD in International Law from the University of London (United Kingdom) and a Master of Law from the University of Zurich (Switzerland), as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mediation from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).
